Varvara Latyshevich
Varvara Anatolyevna Latyshevich is an Evangelical Christian and former chair of the Belarusian charitable public association “With Love to Children,” which was liquidated in 2025.
The organisation, founded in 1997 by Varvara and Andrei Latyshevich together with a group of like-minded people, provided assistance to orphans, children with disabilities, and other socially vulnerable groups.
In March 2026, Varvara Latyshevich was detained and remanded in custody. Her husband, Andrei Latyshevich, and several foreign nationals were also detained.
According to available information, the persecution of the couple is connected with their activities assisting residents of Ukrainian territories occupied by Russia, including children. The authorities accuse them of organising illegal migration; there have also been reports that Varvara Latyshevich may face a charge of high treason.
On 30 June 2026, Belarusian human rights organisations recognised Varvara Latyshevich as a political prisoner.
She is being held in Pre-Trial Detention Centre No. 7 in Brest.
